TRANSITION TO CANVAS

The Blackboard LMS will continue to be available until July 1, 2021. A Canvas “soft roll out” will begin in Spring Term 2021. Any faculty who would like to opt in at this time, will have the opportunity to do so. We will offer both synchronous and asynchronous training sessions from December through July, facilitated by our Bryant Canvas Team with support from the Instructure Canvas team. Students will have access to an orientation course starting in January 2021 and all students will be asked to complete the course before the start of the Fall 2021 term.

In addition, Instructure will provide support with training and the migration of our courses from Blackboard. Canvas will include 24/7 support for faculty as part of our agreement package. We expect all Bryant courses to be transitioned to Canvas by July 1st, as outlined below:

FALL – WINTER 2020

  • December 23: Faculty notified via email of the platform decision by the Canvas Team
  • December 23: Asynchronous Canvas training course for faculty becomes available

WINTER – SPRING 2021

  • January 4: Faculty can notify the CTE of the platform they would like to use for their Spring 2021 courses
  • January 4 – May 1: Canvas course shells become available for faculty for the Spring 2021 term
  • January 4 – May 1: Synchronous virtual faculty trainings on Canvas is held daily for faculty. Additionally, individual consultations are available by appointment
  • January 11: Asynchronous course becomes available for students to take
  • May 1 – July 1: The Canvas Team hosts the second round of training sessions (held daily) for faculty, as well as individual consultations by appointment

SUMMER – FALL 2021

  • July 1 – August 30: The Canvas Team will continue to host weekly training sessions for faculty.
  • August 1st – first day of classes: All students are required to complete the Student Success course at Bryant University. The first module for students will cover Canvas.
