Rachael Juskuv shares her use of the group assignments feature, and describes how students are able to effectively track their course grade in Canvas.

Haedy Liu shares her preference for the collaboration tools in Canvas, the ability to provide video feedback to her students, and the integration of a popular tool (Voicethread) to enhance student learning.

I think it's really important we consider the current circumstances and - if this pandemic will be continuing, which I think it will - what system will best facilitate the kind of flexible teaching we need to be using moving forward. The simple answer here is Blackboard does not fit our need. Canvas does. It's also really important we think about accessibility / universal design / building course content with multiple means of accessing it for students AND instructors with disabilities. Again, Blackboard does not have this capability in the way Canvas does, which is at the very least unethical and at most potentially illegal.

I’m a minimalist when it comes to online course design/organizing and don’t use many of the bells and whistles that CANVAS offers, but the user/design friendly layout, grade-book/assignments, calendar, discussion board, and mobile app alone make Canvas far superior to Blackboard.

If it were my choice alone, I would say "definitely." However, given the turmoil of the past two semesters and the learning challenges faced by faculty who have been required to master many new technology tools in order to teach in this new environment, the timing may not be so good for switching platforms. That is why I chose "probably." If there is the possibility to do so, perhaps we could run the experimental use one more semester before choosing, but I know there are contractual limitations to take into consideration.
